As already usual before a Wheel of Time book release Brandon Sanderson is giving us the opportunity to order a signed and numbered copy of the “Memory of Light”. The 14th and last book of the cycle. The book is going to be published on January 8, 2012. The Ebook is sadly going to be published more than a year later on April 9, 2013.
The full prologue of Memory of Light entitled “By Grace and Banners Fallen” has been made available by Tor. You can buy it as an ebook or audio-book from Amazon here for mere $4.99 or $2.95.
The Memory of Light itself can be preordered from amazon here. Which will cost you $20.98 or you can preorder a signed, numbered and optionally personalized copy from Weller Book Works with whom Brandon Sanderson was also working during the release of the Gathering Storm and the Towers of Midnight. They have only 700 books and the deadline for ordering is December 7th, 2012. Sadly their shipping prices have risen once again. So an international reader will have to pay $69.98 to get the book. Tor has announced the final publication date for “A Memory of Light” the last book of Robert Jordan’s “The Wheel of Time” cycle. The book is going to be released on January 8, 2013. As the previous 2 books of the series this one as well is completed by Brandon Sanderson based on notes/texts and audio recordings left by Robert Jordan himself. Much of this final book was written by Robert Jordan himself during his final days.
The 2013 January publication comes as a little bit of surprise to many of the fans waiting for the book cause most of us expected it to be released this year’s fall. But as Brandon explains the stuff here this was a necessary prolongation considering the 360,000-word book which’s first draft was submitted to the publisher for review in the end of December 2011. Also the 360,000-words are 20% more than Harriet, late Robert Jordan’s wife, and the publisher expected the book to be so the publication date needs to be adjusted for them to be able to review/edit the book. According to Brandon January 8th is actually the latest possible publication date of the book – it’s the last month of the year of the Dragon.
Also another thing of note is that Brandon’s sounds a little bit pessimistic about the date. I won’t be surprised if the release is delayed by a small amount of time.
The release of the book on January 8, 2013 will mean that there are 23 years from the publication of the first book to the publication of the final 14th volume.
The book is not yet available for preorder on Amazon but I expect it to appear there shortly. Also for the readers living outside of US – I’m sure Brandon Sanderson will organize selling through Sam Weller’s bookstore of a small number of signed and numbered books form the first edition. So subscribe to his official blog here and wait for news.
Meanwhile if you haven’t read Mistborn or The Way of Kings by Brandon I strongly recommend them to ease the wait till aMoL’s publishication date.
This is sort of unbelievable but it really did happen. On 3rd of March George R.R. Martin posted in his blog that the fifth book of Song of Ice and Fire series named “A Dance with Dragons” is going to be in the bookstores on 12th of July 2011. You can preorder the book on amazon by clicking the button on the left.
Mr. Martin is still in the process of finalizing the book but promises that this date is not a release date like most of the previous given dates were ( he missed them by several years
) but it’s a rather real and final date. Completing this book took 6 years and it’s going to be the longest of the series’s. Its manuscript is 30 pages longer than Storm of Sword’s one.
Also let me remind you that the first book of the cycle was published in 1996 and knowing that the 4th and 5th books have taken accordingly five and six years to finish we can assume that we’ll see the final 7th book in 10 years. And that’s pretty optimistic cause there’s a chance that we’ll get an 8th book cause the plot won’t fit in 7. I know that Song of Ice and Fire is one of the best or even the single best book of the gender and that writing it the way it is requires a tremendous amount of time and effort. So I understand why we, readers, can’t be having a book a year in this case. But still I hope we’ll see the end sooner than 10 years cause I’m sure many of the fans and most importantly the author himself may not live that long.
P.S.
I’m burning to read some more of my favorite Jon Snow and Arya Stark chapters!
Yesterday I finished reading the 8th book of Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind (8th not counting the prequel named “Debt of Bones”). I still have 3 books to read of the published ones and it looks like the guy is working on a new book titled “Confessor”. So far the 8 books I’ve read were awful. Each book is a standalone story about a superman like main character Richard. The guy has several companions including a wonder-woman Kahlan. Together the superman and his wonder-woman can do anything. There are also several secondary characters and the 7th book was even written from a POV of a completely new character but even that didn’t make it suck any less.
The general storyline of a book from Sword of Truth series is like this:
- something bad happens, the world is in danger
- Turns out Richard is the only one able to fix it
- the evil guy behind the happened bad thing tries to kill Richard and Kahlan
- somewhere in the book a new wizard rule is introduced (i’ll write about this later in this post)
- Richard kills the evil guy
- everyone is happy. end of book.
- start of next book. turns out that during fixing the world in the previous book Richard or Kahlan unknowingly fucked up something and now the world is in danger.
- repeat everything from point 2
Goodkind tends to philosophize a lot on in his books. One of his favorite topics is communism vs democracy & freedom wrapped in a fantasy cover. Sometimes commonplace dialogs between characters seem to be prepared speeches of some kind of world leaders preaching their philosophy. The worst thing is though that Mr. Goodkind sucks at philosophy. Sometimes he presents something as an obvious truth yet the topic is debatable or he is even obviously wrong (at least from my point of view). Read more…
Finally the 13th book of the Wheel of Time series is out. I’ve done a small research and looks like the best place to buy it is here at amazon. The eBook version is delayed for 3 months, probably because of piracy issues and the fact that the publisher makes a lot more from the hardcover sales. The fun thing about this is that the eBook was originally planed to be published a year(!!!) after the hardcover publication date but Brandon Sanderson talked to Harriet (Robert Jordan’s wife) and somehow convinced here to lower this time to the 3 months we have now
And regarding the piracy issues. Surely delaying the eBook publication date will delay the day the book will appear on pirate torrent sites. But someone will eventually scan it and upload somewhere. My guess is it’ll take them a week or two at most. However the audio-book version is already available on some pirate sites and reading the comments there made me laugh aloud. One would expect those “pirates” to be some outlaw people who’re just looking for free book version. Well it turned out that most of them are hardcore fans who have already ordered/preordered the book and just can’t wait till it reaches them

Tor has released chapter 2 of ToM today! It’s available on Tor’s website in audio-book format here. Prior to this Tor has released chapters 1, 8 and the prologue of Towers of Midnight. Now all we have to wait for is the release of the book on November 2.
You can preorder the book on amazon but there’s also a way to get the book numbered and signed by Brandon Sanderson even if you’re living not in US. See my post here for more details.
Brandon Sanderson has posted on his blog that he believes chapter 2 of Towers of Midnight will be released during this week.
I believe that Tor.com will also be releasing chapter two, possibly this week.
Chapter 1, 8 and prologue of the book are released for more than 15 days already.
Wheel of Time book #13 Towers of Midnight will be released on November 2. For preordering options see my previous post here or go ahead and buy it from amazon.

The actual book is going to be out on November 2! In the meantime you can buy the prologue from amazon
. Which isn’t one of the longest prologues in the series for sure but has quite a few viewpoints. Also the preview of first chapter of the book is called “Apples First” and is available on Tor’s website. Brandon Sanderson has also released a preview of chapter 8 on his website and there’s some pretty damn interesting stuff about Mat in it
. Chapter 2 of “Towers of Midnight” is expected to be out around October 15th.
Now for the really hardcore fans there’s a way to get Towers of Midnight signed and numbered ( the number of the sold book ) without waiting in a line for hours or buying a ticket to fly to USA! Brandon & Sam Weller’s Bookstore have given us the opportunity to pre-order the book online (they did this last year as well, my signed and number copy of tGS is on the shelf beside me). The sad thing is that the price of international shipping has gone up to $45 (more details on shipping prices bellow) but you can actually fit 2 books in the package. I’m going to order a copy of “The Way of Kings” which will cost me additional $27.99 (see my note at the bottom) and in total that would be $96.98 (the Way of kings + the Towers of Midnight + international shipping).

Chapter 2 of “Wheel of Time: the Gathering Storm” is out in audio format. It’s located on Tor’s website and requires a free registration. Here’s a direct link. Tor claims that they have released the chapter to “say thank you” to all the fans but I guess this is more of a marketing move than a “thank you” saying
Well anyway though this is a marketing move this is one of those rare occasions when marketing interests match the desires of fans. Read more…
The long awaited twelfth book named “the Gathering Storm” is going to be out for sale on October 27th. For now you can read the free and publicly available first chapter of the book located on the publisher’s website. The prologue is available for sale as usual for “Wheel of Time” series books.
